High Street Estate Agent v Internet Estate Agent

While online estate agents might look like an attractive option at first glance, there is a vast difference in the quality of service you will receive so it’s worth taking time to consider the whole process from beginning to end.

High street agents live and breathe their local area and can sell a lifestyle as much as they can sell the properties they market. Located in prime and prominent positions within their local communities, convenient for sellers and buyers alike to discuss interest and progress. High Street agents will tailor a marketing plan suitable for each individual property using their local knowledge, suitable comparables and current market conditions. Internet agents are often based in nationwide call centres or out of area and value properties based on online data.

We aim to achieve the best price possible for your sale and we maintain excellent communication with all of our clients throughout this important process to ensure everyone is happy with the outcome. As online estate agents are usually paid up front, much of their negotiating position on your behalf has already been lost.

High Street agents will be on hand every step of the way from vetting buyers to accompanied viewings and dedicated sales progression. Internet estate agents by definition provide an online service that often does not include any of the above within their advertised price structure. In some cases Internet agents’ fees rely on you using their in-house services such as their mortgage broker or conveyancer, which could mean you are tied in to paying more money for a service you don’t require or want. 

As a High Street estate agent we ensure we remain constantly proactive in the selling process. In addition to the number of Internet platforms we advertise properties on, such as RightMove and OnTheMarket, we also have direct contact with current local buyers, extensive knowledge of the local area and property market and have the advantage of using local print advertising as an additional selling tool. As Internet agents work remotely they do not have access to any of these beneficial selling tools and instead rely on a seller finding the property themselves on a platform like RightMove.
