The Great Outdoors

With outside space still being of high importance on a buyer’s wish list, we’ve put together an article showcasing a selection of ways in which some of our currently listed properties make the most of theirs – next summer it could be you enjoying them!

Summer is just around the corner and this June is proving to be a scorcher with temperatures reaching upwards of 26C! Not all of us are sun worshippers of course; while some may be looking for a sunny and secluded garden, others may desire an entertainment space perfect for BBQs with friends, plenty of room for the kids to run around in or perhaps a more modest affair with simply a quiet spot to enjoy their morning coffee al fresco. Although what buyers want from an outside space can vary, one thing everyone can agree on is that, since the pandemic, buyers are definitely paying more attention to them. So, let’s take a look at what some of our current vendors have done to make the most of theirs!

Conservatories and Orangeries

At Denny’s Close (Selsey) a generous conservatory extension with French doors onto a patio area, ensures the south facing garden can be readily accessed and enjoyed. Central heating has been installed too which means the conservatory is an excellent entertaining space which can be used all year round! 

Summer Houses and Cabins

Ranging in uses from hobby rooms, home gyms, office spaces and more, adding a summer house or cabin if the garden has room for one is a great option with widespread appeal! Our vendors at Beacon Drive (Selsey) have turned their summer house into a seaside shack which they now use for sheltered outdoor dining. At Green Lane (Selsey) the vendors have added festoon lighting to the exterior of theirs and, with glazed panel doors, the space can be enjoyed come rain or shine.

Outdoor Seating & Dining Sets

A seat in a shady spot can be just the ticket when the mercury is rising fervently! Our vendors at Lifeboat Way (Selsey) have created a cool oasis in their rear garden by installing an arbour - somewhere to sit comfortably and enjoy the fresh air as well as the sound of the sea (the beach being only some 20 yards from the property).

Another of our vendors, also in Lifeboat Way (Selsey), has opted for a designated decked seating area, furnished with an outdoor sofa. A portable parasol ensures that lovers of both sun and shade are catered for during garden gatherings.

For larger gatherings, our vendors at Lamorna Gardens (Westergate) have put together the ultimate garden for entertaining, with several areas dedicated to sitting/dining/lounging as well as a vast expanse of lawn – ideal for garden games, no matter what age you are!

Outside Chiminea

If al fresco evenings are your thing, a Chiminea can make a fantastic focal point! Our vendors in Paddock Lane (Selsey) have many an interesting feature dotted around their garden (including an arbour on a beautifully adorned raised deck) but this attractive source of heat ensures that the garden can still be enjoyed, even when the sun goes down!

Courtyards and Walled Gardens 

The south facing walled garden at our hidden gem of a property on the High Street (Selsey) offers plenty of dappled shade. Beautiful trees, climbers and potted plants really stand out against the cool exterior of the building and, with gravel underfoot, an enchanting and relaxing  space has been created, having an almost Mediterranean-feel.

Wildlife Ponds

The stunning half acre gardens at Yeomans Acre (Aldwick) have much to offer those looking for a large outside space. Green fingered buyers will have plenty to inspire them and a particular feature of this garden is a stunning ornamental pond; not just an attractive focal point for the garden, it also provides a haven for an array of wildlife too.

Balconies and Sun Terraces

For those who want the benefits of the fresh air without so much of the upkeep, a balcony or terrace can be the perfect solution. Our vendor at Fraser Court (Bognor Regis) has dressed this one to impress and it makes for a fabulous spot to sit and unwind on a balmy summer’s evening.
